Given Wichita's rocky history with professional baseball, I wasn't sure how the Wingnuts would be received in their inaugural season.
I'll be honest -- I thought the guy taking the nightly attendance figure might be able to do so by looking at people in the seats and counting.
That's about how it was during the final few seasons of the Wranglers, our Texas League team and Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals.
When the Wranglers bolted for Northwest Arkansas after the 2007 season, and the Wingnuts moved in, I felt jilted.
Independent baseball, with no association to a big-league team, didn't connect with me. But I decided to give the Wingnuts a chance. So did many of you.
