Wingnuts end season with loss

BY JEFFREY LUTZ, The Wichita Eagle-

In their season finale on Saturday night, the Wingnuts showed too many signs of a disappointing past and not enough evidence for a promising future.

Too many men left on base, not enough patient approaches at the plate and a pitching staff that couldn't carry the momentum over from a big inning.

In front of more than 7,000 fans, the Wingnuts fell 10-5 to Lincoln at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. A three-run third inning gave hope for an offensive onslaught, but it never came, as Wichita stranded four of the five runners it had on base during the next five innings.

"I'm going to forget this game like I forget every other loss," Wingnuts manager Kash Beauchamp said. "It usually takes me waking up the next morning to put it behind me. The only bad thing about it is it's the last game of the year and you'll sit on it for the rest of the offseason."
