Wingnuts Bolster Bullpen Back End

WICHITA, Kans. (April 17, 2017) – The Wichita Wingnuts secured a pivotal piece of their late-inning relief puzzle on Monday, re-signing right-handed pitcher Seth Harvey for the 2017 season.

Harvey returns to Wichita after a strong 2016 campaign that saw him go 2-0 with a 2.07 earned run average in 22 relief appearances. Over 21.2 innings, the righty allowed just 13 hits, holding opponents to a paltry .173 batting average, and recorded 26 strikeouts to just eight walks. The Long Beach, Calif., native worked primarily in the 8th inning as the setup man for closer Frankie Reed, and finished the season unscored upon in 13 of his last 14 outings.

Selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 37th round of the 2010 MLB Draft after a four-year career at Washington State, Harvey put together a trio of impressive seasons to begin his professional career. During his first three years with the Brewers, the 29-year old never finished with an ERA above 3.00, culminating in an All-Star selection while with Class A Wisconsin in 2012.

Harvey was off to another strong start in 2013, logging 10 saves and another All-Star nod with High-A Brevard County before a torn UCL and the resulting Tommy John surgery ended his season. He returned the next year to toss 24.1 innings for two Brewers affiliates, then signed with the Florence Freedom of the independent Frontier League for 2015. With the Freedom, Harvey finished 4-4 with a 3.98 ERA in 32 contests, all in relief.

Harvey is the 18th player to sign with the Wingnuts for the upcoming season.  American Association clubs may carry up to 28 players during spring training, which opens on May 6.
